How can we make Crowdin better?

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Being able to add a custom note to the join request on a specific language

Hello, I am one of the Proofreaders on the Discord Translation Project, me and all the managers/proofreaders are asking for a note system for the join application of the project.

I did a mock-up of what it should looks like: https://i.imgur.com/S2ZHOjg.png

We are asking for this because we are trying to get good and active translators into the project since most of them are applying but then not submitting and voting translations.

    • Include deepl as additional machine translation

It has a very simple API (https://www.deepl.com/api-reference.html). It does not yet support all language-tuples of crowdin, but with the already supported language-tuples it creates much more meaningful translations than Google Translate or Microsoft.

      • Add a flag for Shakespearean / Elizabethean / 16th century english language

        Hi,

I've been working on this language, and it's been fun! But I am a bit discouraged by it not having any flag... It needs one to differentiate it, and give it a place!

The "ENWS" flag currently on it, also is actually confusing. People might not be able to identify the language from this arbitary wording.

There is a lot of modern use for such a flag, as shakespeare's literary works are still strongly popular today, and in school curriculums everywhere!

There's no need to design a flag, as a suitable one exists already, and it shouldn't be too…

        • Support escaped curly braces ({}) in ICU message format

In my project, I use the raw characters { and } as they are used in core user functionality. However, there is no current way for me to use these characters when also using the ICU message format.

The official specifications states that curly braces should be escaped within quoted literal strings '{' '}' http://userguide.icu-project.org/formatparse/messages#TOC-Quoting-Escaping

This ICU formatting guide also supports this syntax https://messageformat.github.io/messageformat/page-guide

I cannot proceed with localisation of my project without support for escaping curly braces. I hope that this is possible. Thank you.

          • Reintroduce the "Activity Stream per language"

From the beginning of time up to a few days ago it was always possible after clicking on your language's flag to have the "Activity Stream" and "Discussion" for *that* language.
Now clicking on the flag goes directly to the "files selection".

At least for proofreaders it's kinda difficult the declutter the project activity stread when you only want to see the activity of your proofread language.

Proposal: Make it toogleable in the user preferences

            • Semantic Commit Header

Nowadays commit messages are being used for multile purposes aside of the usual one as for example feed a changelog file.

              https://seesparkbox.com/foundry/semantic_commit_messages

Some automated tools as commitlint [https://github.com/marionebl/commitlint] check for commit messages and goes crazy with the crowdin default message that does not follow semantic commit messages.

It would be great a way to customise the formating of the commit.

              eg:

              docs(translation): new translations auth.md (Vietnamese)

              xxx(reason): default message

Either allow via configuration to add a prefix would be an option.

              • Show strings on left sidebar in my own language (native language in user profile)

We have problem. We have project with Russian source language. And we need translate some languages from source language, but other languages we need translate from English. I think way with 2 projects is bad idea (as it's now). I'd add view and search on user own language (user can choose native language).

I think that idea is very simple for development, but for users it's very useful. See screenshot.

                  • Create a tab with 'Translation History'

                    Hi there!

I would like you to change the 'translation history' to a tab below where I can copy and paste an old translation more easily.

Sometimes we need to remember an old translation. In the current days, I need to click in ... and after open a new window/tab to find an old traslation...

If the tab is bellow the translation field, is easy to copy and past it.

                                  • ICU Syntax Variable bug

Currently, when you try to translate a variable inside of a ICU select option, crowdin does not understand that the variables can be changed.

                                    Example:
                                    {isPlural, select, plural{seems} singular{seem} other{seem}}

                                    translated into:
                                    {isPlural, select, plural{deze} singular{dit} other{dit}}

throws an error, stating that the 'variables' (note that they are not really variables) seem and seems are not in the translated string.

Crowdin already sees this, because seems and seem are not colored. However it still throws the error.

                                    • Fix ICU syntax

Currently crowdin should support the ICU syntax. However, it does not support the ICU escape character '{}'.
                                      http://userguide.icu-project.org/formatparse/messages

I suggest that crowdin implements an option to only compile ICU/Mustache/etc. so more errors are caught by the QA.

                                      OR

That crowdin correctly implements the ICU format.

This feature allows an email can be drafted up and gets sent to all new translators who have just joined.

                                        Use cases include:
                                        - Briefing translators on projects' terminology
                                        - Explanation of how the platform works (the voting, the approvals, submitting translations, etc.)
                                        - Schedule (when translations are submitted, when translations are deployed)

                                        • Include names of translators per file in the API

It would be beneficial to see the names of the people who contributed to the translation of a specific file per language throug your API.

This would help us to give credit to the correct people in our application.
