How can we make Crowdin better?

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Improve UI of the translations editor to better indicate current language

    Currently it is not really obvious in the editor what language is being edited.
    Often it leads to confusions and as a result translators put wrong translations into wrong locales.

    It would be much nicer to enhance UI to show current language.
    Would save a lot of pain.
    Thanks

  2. Being able to add a custom note to the join request on a specific language

    Hello, I am one of the Proofreaders on the Discord Translation Project, me and all the managers/proofreaders are asking for a note system for the join application of the project.

    I did a mock-up of what it should looks like: https://i.imgur.com/S2ZHOjg.png

    We are asking for this because we are trying to get good and active translators into the project since most of them are applying but then not submitting and voting translations.

  3. Changing the public username

    It would be great to be able to change the public username after it was set automatically after registration e.g. via GitHub

  5. Context of translation string could link directly to Github filename+line number for true context

    This is in direct relationship to the followin feature being supported in crowdin: https://crowdin.uservoice.com/forums/31787-collaborative-translation-tool/suggestions/10694856-add-to-context-source-file-info-for-ts-files

    It would allow the translator to directly press on the Context filename:line# and be linked to the exact filename:line# on Github

  6. Automatic build

    It would be great to have an option on Crowdin projects so translations would be built once a day, of course after checking that new translations are available.

    At the moment, translators have to wait that Project managers manually build the translation, via the web interface, or via the API. This is not fair, e.g for Open Source projects, or .po files: users should be able to download and use the files directly, or soon after translating.

    Of course, developers can set a CRON job with the API command on their Continuous Integration. But it would be great to provide…

  8. Please add U2F security key support as 2 factor authentication

    U2F security keys are the safest 2FA option, phishing resistant and fastest to login. Please add it.

  10. Advanced search - how many votes

    I'am a proofreader , I want to filter only this translation which needs to be approved, I know there is "Not yet approved", But I want only to filter this one which have at least 3 votes, or 5 votes, or 10 votes.

  11. Crowd-Translator Boosting - Rewards, Badges, Grades, Global Stats, Monetization, Gamification...

    Hii !
    I'm totally new to Crowdin, but still, I have a particular feature request.

    It's more philosophical thant in deep technical stuff, but I think it is important.

    On the Crowin website, we can see how cool it is to use Crowdin as a developper. And this is the thing : Crowdin is realy thought for developpers.

    But what about (crowd-)translators ? What would I go on Crowdin ? The ability to use a very advanced translation system is fun, but I don't think it's enough to keep the community involved.

    In my humble opinion, Crowdin has to increase…

  12. Ability to translate with formal and informal versions of "you"

    A nice addition to the feature set of Crowdin would be to add the ability to translate strings in two ways based formal and informal usage. This would be useful for many languages where there is a difference between the formal and informal versions of "you" (which has disappeared from English), e.g. "tu"/"vous" in French, "te"/"ön" in Hungarian, not to mention the huge difference between the everyday speech and keigo in Japanese.
    This also raises the question what should be included in the package: maybe a project-level option for administrators to determine whether the formal or the informal strings should…

  13. Declutter comments

    Currently, the comments system is a mess. Translators sometimes need to discuss some problem which is bound to their language only, but due to the way the comments system is built now, everyone else in the world sees their conversation. This creates one big stream of unrelated messages in different lanaguages and alphabets. It's a really terrible user experience.

  14. Glossary terms highlighted in colors (more visible)

    We've noticed that some of our translators (both professionals and crowdsourcers) sometimes ignore the glossary terms just because they don't see/notice those terms are underlined.

    Would it be possible to make any terms we have in the glossary more visible? What about marking them with a yellow background?

    Thanks a lot!

  15. Add build webhook

    With a build webhook, we would be able to notify our services when new translation files are available instead of having a service that regularly pings crowdin.

  16. Add an API to retrieve a list of translators

    I would like to create a page where I list all the translators on the project as a token of appreciation. However, that list is very long and changes constantly - managing it manually is unrealistic. Given that Crowdin has all the necessary information, it would be great if it would allow to retrieve it automatically via its API. This API could give out something like the following:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <translators>
    <language>
    <name>French</name>
    <code>fr</code>
    <translator user="account_name1">Real Name2</translator>
    <translator user="account_name2">Real Name2</translator>
    </language>
    <language>
    ...
    </language>
    </translators>

    Alternatively, this information could be added to the existing translation status API (http://crowdin.net/page/api/status)

  17. Add Ripuarian or Kölsch Language

    in the Rhineland of Germany around 1 Million people speak "Ripuarian" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ripuarian_language
    The most prominent variant of that is "Kölsch" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colognian_language ), spoken in Cologne, because of that, the ISO 639-3 language code of Ripuarian is "ksh"

    Proposal of the flag at crowdin: Either the Rhineland coat of arms https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhineland or the green / white of the Prussian Rhine Province https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhine_Province

  18. Language-specific description (guidelines)

    Proofreaders should be able to create and manage a pinned description area for the languages they proofread.

    That text could be used to guide the new translators on how they should translate the project.

    For example:

    * formal vs informal wording
    * link to a project glossary
    * examples of language-specifc errors to prevent
    * what areas of the project need the most attention in the language
    * whether some characters need to be used or avoided (umlauts, specific quotation marks)
    * highlighting certain discussions that must be read

    I think the best place for this description field is directly…

  19. Support for sub-projects

    I would like suggest a feature that would allow creating a structure of sub-projects. Sub-projects should inherit target languages from their parent, and user access rights should also be inherited, but with the possibility to override them.
    This would be useful for big projects with a lot of different translation files to be able sort them into different projects so they can be handled separately.

  20. Widget to show translation rates

    Look at the bottom-right of http://sitracker.org
    It is a small widget showing how much has been translated.

    Having such a widget on our homepage would make much more users contribute translations.

    Ideally it should be embeddable from Github Markdown and Google Code (maybe a dynamic image?).

    It would also be a great advertisment for Crowdin.
